In April 2018 Tammy and I came up to view the hotel from our home in Henley on Thames. It would not be far fetched it was love at first sight when we saw the building and the beautiful area of Dumfries and Galloway. We decided that it was a perfect time to start the next phase of our lives together with our 1 year old son and a very adorable ( read very spoilt ) cocker spaniel Hamish.

Our goal from the very beginning was to create a hotel that is not formal ( as one would expect from a country house ) but essentially create a place that was relaxed, welcoming , friendly and a home away from home.

We are a family run hotel and aim to provide a warm and friendly service with a small team who are committed to provide high levels of service to all our guests. We both share our love for dogs and from the very start knew that the hotel had to be pet friendly and our canine friends need to be looked after just as well as the guests.

In our efforts to restore this building we are supported by our brother in law Paul who you will see walking around the building or driving around on his tractor (he is very possessive of his tractor). He is master of his craft and we consider him to be a magician. We are very fortunate that he has chosen to be a part of this journey with us. We are also supported in our efforts wo look after the building by Jenny ( Paul’s partner & my wife’s sister ) who is an accomplished hair dressers and in addition to running he own salon comes in when she can and help in maintaining the hotel. As gratitude and we have named our Master suite after her.

Both Tammy & I are very proud that we have been afforded this unique privilege to look after this beautiful building in Castle Douglas with history that goes back hundreds of years. We both understand that there is lot of work that needs to be done to look after this hotel and we are committed to devoting time, passion and energy to this end. We will continue to invest in the fabric of the hotel over the coming months and years and sincerely hope that you like what we present to you for your pleasure.
